Alpha Kappa Alpha Educational Advancement Foundation, Inc.

We are primarily African-American women with a commitment to promote life-long learning. Scholarships, fellowships and grants to students and projects are strategies used to fulfill our commitment.

Why do we exist?

We exist to promote life long learning. We work to accomplish our goal by supporting all facets of learning and offering a broad spectrum of services. This includes:

  • support of families particularly those headed by women;

  • assisting individuals pursuing studies in institutions of higher learning,

  • providing seed money for pilot projects that are serving the unique needs of a community or special population and responding to the housing needs of an aging population.

The people we help could be your neighbors, your children or "God forbid" even yourself. It should be a sense of comfort to know you made these services possible.

What have you accomplished?

Our first awards of $10,000 were made in 1988 to 14 students. Over the past nine years an additional 357 students and 35 projects have received over $500,000 in awards. There are as many stories as there are beneficiaries.

One of the more outstanding is a scholarship recipient who was an ex-offender and had completed his junior college work. He wanted to continue his education. We awarded him his first scholarship. Our follow-up with him four years later shows he is completing a doctoral degree in the field of mental health. He indicated our scholarship opened doors that he never envisioned were available to him.

How do you help people in my community? Why do you need my support?
How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it? Can I Volunteer? How?
