American Civil Liberties Union Foundation

ACLU Foundation defends free speech, religious freedom, due process and personal privacy. Fights discrimination against minorities, women, the poor and others. Local offices in every state to defend your rights.

How do you help people in my community?

The ACLU makes a difference in the lives of people all over the country each and every day. With over 50 affiliate offices across the country, we are in a unique position to battle the many threats to liberty that arise in local communities every day. Whether we are fighting to protect a child's right to speak out freely in school, for a gay couple's right to housing and jobs, or for employees' right to conduct their private lives as they see fit, the ACLU is there to respond.

Why do you need my support?

The ACLU is a membership organization and we view our members and supporters as committed partners in our quest for liberty and justice for all. A large portion of the ACLU's budget comes from small contributions from individuals who share our love of liberty. These gifts are the backbone of our organization and make everything we do possible.

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?

Thomas Jefferson wrote that "the price of liberty is eternal vigilance" and at the ACLU we know that all too well. The ACLU has been providing that vigilance for over 75 years because we know what it takes to get the job done. Not only is our legal staff top-notch, but we use our resources effectively and wisely. In fact, the ACLU Foundation spends less than 13% of its budget on fundraising and administration and has been given a rating of A by the American Institute of Philanthropy.
