Lutheran Braille Workers, Inc.

Provides, free of charge, Braille and Large Print Bibles and Christian literature in more than 30 languages to blind and vision-impaired individuals of 120 countries throughout the world.

How do you help people in my community?

First, we send our materials to so many places that we have the ability touch the lives of thousands of individuals in many communities.

Second, we provide a place for people to volunteer their time and talents. Many volunteers receive a chance to become involved in a ministry to others through the work they do at a Lutheran Braille Workers work center. Volunteering can also give lonely individuals the chance to work together toward a common goal often giving them the opportunity to form lasting friendships.

Why do you need my support?

Because we do not receive budgeted funding from any religious or government entity; we rely totally on individual gifts from donors. Since all of our materials are provided free of charge, we need financial support to meet the rising costs of paper and printing. To produce Braille a special type of paper must be used. It is expensive, and the cost is constantly increasing. Without the many combined gifts from individuals, we would not be able to provide our materials free of charge to those in need. It is our dream to reach every country in the world enabling each individual who desires a Bible to have one in their native language. Often, we who are sighted, forget how difficult it is for the blind or visually impaired individual to be able to read scripture whenever they want to. For your gift of $3.50 you can place one volume of the Bible into the hands of a blind or visually impaired man, woman, or child. Approximately 99 percent of our workforce are comprised of volunteer labor, which enables us to utilize our funding for paper, press maintenance, and computer upgrades that are used for translating the Bible into different languages.

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?

Lutheran Braille Workers is willing to provide any financial reports to those who would require them. All of our supplies are purchased at the best possible pricing without compromising the quality of the materials we produce. An annual, unqualified-audit is preformed by an independent auditor. It would be our pleasure to provide you with an annual report so you can see how we utilize our contributions from individuals and interested groups.

Can I Volunteer? How?

Yes! Lutheran Braille Workers has more than 200 work centers throughout the United States and Canada that you may volunteer at. If you’re interested in becoming a volunteer, you may contact the International Headquarters of Lutheran Braille Workers, Inc. at (909) 795-8977 or e-mail us at lbw@lbwinc.org for a work center located near you. Besides volunteering your time and talents, your prayers for the ministry are greatly appreciated.
