Jewish Family Service of San Diego

JFS is one source for a lifetime of help with more than 50 programs and services for the entire community, including adoption, counseling, parent education, food pantry and much more.

How do you help people in my community?

As One Source for a Lifetime of Help, we make a difference in people’s lives. When a family needs help following a disaster, when a teenage mother needs parenting skills, when a Camp Pendleton family is struggling to make ends meet, when an older adult needs a friendly visitor—we are here every step of the way.

Our mission is to strengthen the individual, enhance the family, and protect the vulnerable with human services based on Jewish values. And that’s exactly what we do. You can see it in our past, you can feel it in our present, and you can count on it in our future.

Why do you need my support?

Our ability to help others depends on you. Your donation goes a long way at Jewish Family Service.

$50 - Dinner for one week for a homeless family
$100 - Ten hours of babysitting to enable a single parent to work
$200 - One-time rental assistance for a family experiencing an unexpected financial crisis
$1,000 - First months rent on a new apartment for a family fleeing domestic abuse
$5,000 - Provides a twice weekly exercise class for 20 older adults for one year

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?

We’ve been leaders in the community since we started in 1918—we are celebrating 90 years of helping the community. We’ve earned the reputation of not only providing excellent, compassionate services, but being an accountable well-managed agency. JFS has an active Board of Directors and a strong management team—our combined management and fundraising expenses are under 20%.

Can I Volunteer? How?

Volunteers are the heart of Jewish Family Service—and are an essential reason why we can be One Source for a Lifetime of Help. Volunteer opportunities include: mentoring children, teens, and teen mothers; visiting the ill, elderly, and mentally ill; delivering meals to homebound older adults and younger disabled adults; driving older adults to and from medical appointments; completing minor home repairs for older adults; working at senior centers and offices; helping a newly arrived refugee family; providing agency clients with Passover and Thanksgiving baskets; and much more. JFS has more than 20 volunteer opportunities—find out how you can get involved at www.jfssd.org.
