Hillsides

Hillsides is a residential and community treatment center that creates safe places for children at risk and their families. We provide mental health, offer special education, strengthen families and advocate for children's rights.

How do you help people in my community?

In the Greater San Gabriel Valley and Los Angeles (Metro North), children and families can count on Hillsides to keep our promises of creating safe places.  We work the children and youth that our placed in our 17-acre campus by providing individual therapy, recreational therapy, music therapy, and other programs that interest the resident. When the children arrive on Hillsides’ campus, they are devastated, torn from their families, and after working with staff, finding a safe place in their cottage, they begin to see Hillsides as their family.  Parents, working with Hillsides Family Center, learn to create safe places for their children. And children also gain self-confidence and reconnect with their parents. Recently added to our core programs, a goal of Wraparound is to maintain placement stability for children at risk of out of home care and also to help children who are being moved from residential care back into the home.  Through Youth Moving On, we give former foster youth the necessary transitional living skills for a successful transition into adulthood. With mentorship, mental health, affordable housing and other support services, former foster youth have a greater chance of creating safe homes with their future families.

Why do you need my support?

Every little bit counts.  Whether its birthday parties, braces for a resident, or toy/book drives, in-kind donations help provide the extras for the children in our care.  Families benefit from the Thanksgiving baskets, holiday adopt-a-family program, and the different wishes that are fulfilled annually.  Former foster youth learn to create traditions of their own with the seasonal linen, decorations, and gift cards that donors provide.

Hillsides raises bout 30% of its income with the support of individuals, businesses, foundations, and community organizations. Donations are needed to support ongoing children’s programs, to fund new services, to build and maintain facilities, and to increase Hillsides’ endowment to insure the agency’s ability to serve future generations.  Will you consider helping our children and their families?

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?

Hillsides’ excellent reputation has garnered several awards. We can provide you with a copy of our annual report that shows how our funds are used. We believe in providing our children with more than just the basic necessities like food, clothing, and shelter.  At any given time, our children are in structured programs, extracurricular activities, or in community outings.  We are able to provide these because of donors, like yourself, who care enough to make a donation that will directly serve the children. Donors may donate funds for specific items, activities, etc. In that case, you can indicate with your donation that it is restricted for a very specific thing.  You can call the development department to learn more about donating to children’s programs and services.

Can I Volunteer? How?

Volunteers help Hillsides provide the highest quality of care to the children and families we serve through their work in the residential program, the school, and in the family center.  Along with his or her talents and skills, each volunteer brings a unique perspective and life experience to our programs. It is always a pleasure to match a prospective volunteer with just the right task.  We’re always looking for program volunteers, special friends, mentors, tutors, college interns, members to join our support groups, and clubs and organizations to sponsor outings. To discuss volunteering, call our Community Resource Office at (323) 254-2274, ext. 251 or 258. To learn more about Hillsides, visit www.Hillsides.org.
