Parkinson's Disease Association of San Diego

Provides in-home respite care, information and referral, transportation/escort services, countywide support group network, semi-annual educational symposia, therapeutic singing, nurses training, and supports promising research.

How do you help people in my community?

If you live in San Diego County, your neighbors with Parkinson's disease may be benefiting from one or more of PDASD's programs or services.  Nearly all of these are provided at no cost to the patient or family; others, like the In-Home Respite Care Program and the Transportation and Escort Program, are partially subsidized.  This is particularly important for seniors, others on fixed or low incomes, or those on permanent disability.

If you live outside San Diego County, someone you know with Parkinson's may benefit from the research into the disease that is being carried out because of PDASD's contributions to medical research programs.  San Diego has many excellent research facilities, and numerous local researchers are working in the field of Parkinsonism to find new treatments that may help patients better manage their symptoms, and hopefully to find a cure for the disease.

Why do you need my support?

Our revenues come from individual memberships, individual gifts, bequests, foundation and corporate grants, and fundraising events.  Major gifts are wonderful, but not common.  It's the small gifts added together that are the mainstay of our organization.  Our 15 programs and services are supported by people like you, who give what they can in the knowledge that every little bit will make a real difference in the lives of San Diego County families living with the enormous challenges of Parkinson's disease.

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely and won't waste it?

The Parkinson's Disease Association of San Diego is governed by a 17-member Board of Directors whose President is a Certified Public Accountant. Accuracy of all financial disclosures and proper accounting of the use of funds is assured by our Budget and Finance Committee and 2 independent financial audits conducted on an annual basis by the American Parkinson Disease Association (APDA  New York) and Sonnenberg & Company, Inc. (San Diego, CA.)
